Baby Boy!

Well he is here! 7 pounds 9 ounces and 20.5 inches long. We didn’t think that Nana was going to make it in time. He decided all on his own that he wants to come on St. Patty’s day. I was 6 cm when I told her to head towards the hospital and by golly she walked in and within 30 minutes and 2 pushes he was here! As the doctor held him up to show that he was delivered B peed on him. I guess all that cold air was a bit much.  Nana was able to cut the umbilical cord for B just like she was able to do with his brother and sister. How cool is that? She was also the first person (other than hospital staff) to hold him.

He was jaundice so we had to stay a little longer than we would have liked but that’s okay. Whatever it takes to bring him home safely. All the Aunts & Uncles & Grandma’s got to hold him while he was in the hospital. Brothers and sisters had to wait.

We noticed that he was trying to hold his head up the first day he arrived. I have never seen anything like it before. He took to the bottle well, they were ready made bottles, you just shake / open and replace cap with nipple. After we got home and needed to introduce an actual bottle we only had the canto bottles from target as we were waiting for the 4oz Boon bottles to arrive from Amazon. The Boon bottles has been a life saver. They collapse as he drinks so there is little to no air in the bottle when drinking.

Already wearing 3 month clothing. He is a big baby. We are told every day how much he looks just like his daddy.

1 month check up
10 pounds 6 ounces
21 3/4 inches long
39 cm head

Stating to wear 6 month clothes but the barely fit. Introducing 9 month clothes for the length and thickness.

2 month check up
13 pounds 2.5 ounces
23.5 inches long
40.5 cm head

Found (Toddler) Else formula and that was the best thing for his little digestive system. Nice soft poops with no strain. I must admit that it stinks but it doesn’t hurt his tummy and that is all that matters. I have been able to buy it from Amazon and Else directly even with the crazy formula shortage. There have been no issues getting it shipped to the house. I do have on average 6 cans always available as I never want to be without.

He somehow got a fungus on neck required antibiotics as we couldn’t get it to go away with cream. Poor baby. We figured out that it started as a sensitivity to the baby wash that had lavender smells in it. Apparently his sensitive skin just couldn’t take it and just reacted in a different way than we would have. We have since stopped all “smells” and using scent free everything and we haven’t had a problem since.

He is drinking 8 ounces of formula each sitting now and we have already introduced baby food. Of course fruit is the favorite because it is sweet but I have figured that mixing the turkey with fruit he will eat a half of can each to make a whole can of food at each sitting. Did I mention that he is a terribly messy eater? Oh man it’s terrible.

1st upper respiratory infection and double ear infection. Man that was a rough 10 days with medication. B was not a happy baby. We slept in a chair with a vaporizer pouring on us just so he could breath. The snot sucker that was given to us during the baby shower got so much use out of it we had to charge it twice in the 10 day period. Daddy had to buy a rocking chair just to settle him down when he is tired and that chair has been working miracles already.

4 month check up
17 pounds 10.5 ounces
26 inches long
43 cm head
He is stay steadily in the 85 percentile.

He is sleeping about 8 hours a night and doesn’t want to go to sleep until 12 1230am. Makes for a long day but at least we don’t have to get up in the middle of the night for diaper changes and bottles. Rocking chairs have been a MUST. He loves to rock and he loves to watch Doc McStuffins on Hulu. He gets the biggest smile when the intro song comes on and starts to giggle when you sing along with it pointing to him. ” Gonna check you ears, check your eyes”.

Eating 1 full jar of baby food each meal and still wanting a bottle after the jar of food is where we are at now. Everything goes into his mouth. Teething toys, fingers, hands, straws, shirts, you name it. If it is close to his mouth he is trying to eat it.

His self soothing for sleep is hysterical. He yells with his eyes closed and head on your chest. He will yell for 5 minutes straight while flopping his head from side to side then just be out cold sleeping. It’s almost like he is announcing that he is tired and he wants your full attention before he bows at the curtain draw. Mind you this only takes place AFTER you have walked around the neighborhood at least once after bath time. He LOVES the outdoors. No I don’t think you understand how much he LOVES outside.  You can just open the door like you are going to walk outside and he will stop fussing. Jeesh, this kid already has a personality and a half.  Waking up is the best part of the day. He will pop his head up and look, he will make a noise that sounds like ooooooowwwww and if you get up and look at it and address him by his nick name he gets the biggest smile on his face.

He is wearing a size 4 diaper and currently comfortably in 12 months clothes. Shoes he is in a 3C as the foot is rather thick along with length. Daddy has made sure that he has 3 pairs of Nike’s to match all the Nike, Nautica, and Polo outfits that are hanging up in the closet.

Since we are facing teething early, there is a ton of drool. Ear infections and just a very unhappy baby. Come on 12 months, you can’t come quick enough when babies are hurting. We are closely watching the “bumps” that are on the back of his neck for size, pain, etc. We are trying the amber necklace and bracelet to help with all the drooling. It appears to be helping as I notice that I am not going through as many “spit rags” a day like I was prior to using then necklace. I was thankful I was able to reach-out to my little cousin as I saw her little’s used them in their little years. Thank God for family that is willing to share there experiences with you.

Finally bedtime has been consistently between 9:30 and 10:30PM so much easier on us than the 12:30am that he was doing at the beginning of this month. He takes a couple naps during the day (on a good day). You just have to find what makes him comfy at that moment as it seems that his moments change instantly. I wonder where he gets that from?

6th month check up

21pounds 12 1/2 ounces

height 27 3/4

head 45.5 cm

wearing 18 month to 2T and size 5 shoes.

He is currently in the 99th percentile

He started daycare and made it two days before getting his 5th ear infection and the viral stomach flu. It wasn’t the best week. Ended up in the ER for IV fluids since he was so dehydrated from the diarrhea and not eating. Immediately after the fluids he started to act better and began eating his normal regiment of 1/2 bottle formula 1/2 bottle food. We will be following up with an ENT to see if we need to look into tubes.
