Merging Excel files

I get a call from an employee requesting “help” merging spreadsheets in excel.

Me: Are you getting an error?

User: No.

Me: How can I help you?

User: Can you log into my computer and show me how to do it?

Me: We’re a break-fix solution, we’re not excel experts. Unfortunately, we have no bandwidth to assist you with this. I would suggest using google to find instructions.

User: So you’re not going to help me?

Me: Respectfully, you’re not asking me to help, you’re asking me to do it for you. We’re not that kind of support, if you try and get an error, I’m happy to troubleshoot the error but we don’t perform user tasks for them.

User: Okay, I’ll see if anyone can help me.

SHE IMMEDIATELY SUBMITS AN IT TICKET

“I have an excel workbook with multiple worksheets. I would like to be able to merge the worksheets into one worksheet.”

I decided it was best to take the ticket and respond; however, I wasn’t going to make it easy for her since she already gave me the finger:

“As discussed over the phone, this is not something IT is able to do for you. I took the liberty of looking up some instructions that may answer your questions. I would suggest making a backup of the workbook(s) you’re working on to ensure data integrity.
